On August 14, 1980 in the southern training area of Fort Carson, CO, PFC Fernando A. Trujillo was fatally injured when he ran into the tail rotor of an AH-1. Information I have located so far indicates that his MOS was 68M, which appears to be a cook/food service related. Information on this site suggests he was servicing the aircraft. Is my information regarding 68M incorrect?
Also interested in any other information available regarding this incident. My friend was a witness to the soldier's death and never knew his name. I am trying to help him gain some closure after all these years.
I found one newspaper article from the Colorado Springs Gazette Telegraph dated August 15, 1980. There is very little information in the article. I have had no luck finding any follow-up articles, if there ever were any.
FOIA submitted to Army Safety with no results as of yet.
Many thanks for any information you can find!
