A deceased friend told me he was traumatized by a memory of a crash where several boys died when attempting to drop an old helo blade into the ocean. Anyone ever heard a story like this? Would have happened in Viet Nam in '72 or '73...

I read this same story in the book Chicken Hawk. The pilot who wrote the book witnessed the accident whilst he was leave on the beach.
You'd have to get a copy of the book for details. They were flying out to dump it at sea when the blade speared up into the rotors.

There was an article on this event in aviation digest (Army publication) titled " a three bladed huey" I am sorry I don't remember the date but I do remember the article.
