Stan and Lawrence were my crew flying on a down day for me.
A/C was en route from Pleiku south to Cheo Reo 100' or so above the main road in an area that was notoriously a cold area. NVA had set-up a 51 cal position just off the road and when the A/C passed over they fired on it from the rear when it was pretty much a stationary target. Businda, Walenski and Hensey were hit by the fire and probably dead before the A/C hit the ground just west of the road. The AC a Capt Torres survived the crash and was not hit by the hostile fire but did sustain some pretty horrific pressure bruises and a severe concussion but no broken bones. He remembered only bits and pieces of what happened and where he was but manage to extricate himself and crawl to the road where a passing MACV jeep founding him lying 5-6 hours after the crash. He returned to the unit in a few days and flight status within a month.
I lost two good friends that day.
