Army helicopter crashes during training flight, crew escapes injury
Associated Press
FORT RUCKER, Ala. - Two crew members escaped injury when their Apache helicopter crashed Tuesday during a training flight, officials said.
The AH-64D Apache helicopter, valued at $21 million, crashed around 8 a.m. on the Molenelli Range near the sprawling military base, a spokesman at the Army post said. Authorities are assessing the damage to the helicopter and investigating the cause of the crash, officials said in a press release.
The accident was the second such crash this month involving a Fort Rucker-based aircraft. An Army Blackhawk Helicopter crashed into an electricity transmission tower near the Geneva-Coffee county line on March 1.
