I don't have the exact dates but it was in the '81 time frame at Ft. Rucker. There was a crash of UH-1 at Skelly Stage Field during a initial entry training flight, hydralics off manuver. The IP was a Captain (new IP) also killed was the Flight Commander, a Captain and 3 student pilots. I can not remember names. I was Chief of Training Scheduling Branch as Lowe Army Airfield at the time.

I think this was April 1982. The students were in Light Blue flight. It was believed at the time that the student lost control and switched the hydraulics back on at low altitude. I was in primary at the time, about to start huey phase. The aircraft sat on post at an inspection area for a very long time after the crash.

I believe I remember the accident. I thought the IP was a DAC by the name of Ron Cowden.
If I am not mistaken it was right after that happened that the anti-mast bumping rubber stops were installed on all Hueys. I am not sure of the official nomenclature of the part.
