My brother was Jim S. Ayton - aboard the helicopter that went down on a routine flight in Korea on 3/22/72. If anyone has connections or if any of the survivors are on this sight, would like to connect. Also, if there is a newspaper item about the accident. Jim served in Vietnam but this happened when he was on another duty in Korea. His birthday was yesterday. Thank you.

My request relates to the date of death info for my high school classmate Patricia Weston Fenton. Patricia was married to Thomas J. Fenton who perished in a helicopter crash in July 1997. Information I have about Patricia in 1991 had her with the following military address: B Company, 9th Engineering Bn., Box 166 APO New York. By 2001 it was learned that she was deceased, but I have no other information to officially confirm that information. Wondering if there might have been any information about Patricia at the time of death of her husband in 1997. Thank you for any help you are able to provide.

Dear Jim,
I am not sure what you are looking so here are some highlights. We hit a mountain. Holloman (Pilot) and I (Crew Chief) were with Jim when he died. Jim was unconscious and I am sure he did not suffer after impact. The information included below is pretty much correct. Yes we hit trees but that was not the significant impact in my opinion.
That night was the first time I flew with Jim. I recall that he had just returned from leave and this was his second tour. During pre-flight, Jim grilled me somewhat about my helicopter (no problem) and insisted that I wear my chicken plate. I debated that 'bout a long as I could and as Jim was an officer and the AC and followed his order. That likely saved my life. If not it saved me from significant injuries. Holloman and Jim were good pilots. Hinty was the gunner. We finally made it off the mountain and were medivaced to the 93rd Field Hosp in Long Binh.
If you would like info on why I think that mountain jumped in front of us, I can provide.
Best regards, Frank Ponzio Dragon Platoon 334th AHC 68/69
