Two people who were on board remain in critical condition. The Blackhawk helicopter crashed on takeoff near the Corps of Cadets field. It was performing training exercises. The names of the victims were not immediately released. Officials said none was an A&M student. Witnesses told The Eagle they saw four helicopters — all believed to be Blackhawks — taking off and landing on the field throughout the day. The aircraft were participating in the school's annual winter field training, which involves military personnel working with members of the Corps of Cadets. Scot Walker, publications manager for the A&M Association of Former Students, told the newspaper he saw two helicopters lift off from the field at around 3:05 p.m. The first took off with no problem, but the second quickly began spinning. “All of the sudden he dropped straight back down into the ground,” Walker was quoted as saying.
