They hold the rank of WO1 but it is a conditional promotion. If they wash out (which unfortunately rarely happens today) they revert to their previous rank and MOS. Therefore, you are a candidate until you pin on those wings.

Im not sure about that. Even if you wash out of flight school you still hold the rank of W1, you just might be sent elsewhere if there is a spot for you. All the pilots that washed out of our class still held their rank of W1 they were just sent as walking warrants.

You can't be a "walking Warrant" if you don't meet the prerequisites for the MOS, (feeder MOS, BNCOC, 6 Yrs in job gategory, and more) or have the skills to be a "feeder" into that MOS. WOFG's that wash out, will retain the rank until suck time a decision is made for separation, reassignment, or whatever the Commander decides, then they will return to previous rank and MOS. If they had none, they will be selected for separation. Trust me, this is what I do here at Rucker.
