Two 12th Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Armored Division Soldiers were killed in a AH-64D Apache helicopter crash on 19 September 2006 at 2240 local in Grafenwoehr, Germany. The 36-year-old CW3 pilot and the 31-year-old CW2 co-pilot/gunner were conducting diving rocket fire during a night aerial gunnery range operation. After completing the engagement the aircraft did not pull up from the dive and impacted the ground in a nose low attitude. The two officers sustained fatal injuries, and the aircraft was destroyed in a post-crash fire. The crash is currently under investigation by the USACRC.
