The day before my first day of Huey contact in Apr of 84 there was a post wide safety stand down day at Ft. Rucker. The day after the stand down a Huey in Light Blue Flight (84-13?) was doing a hydraulics off go around at the stage field out the gate going to Ozark. Long story short, they got into mast bumping, lost the head and went down. 2 WOC`s were killed. I think the instructor was a DAC. Saw the acft in a hangar later. Smashed down to about 3`high. My introduction to the dangers of Army Aviation.

The April Safety Stand Day was Friday before Palm Sunday. The accident accrued on that Monday after Palm Sunday. The IP was a DAC that just retired from the Army. One Student was a LT. The LT was in the right seat and on the Flight Controls. The other student was a WOC seating in the jump seat. According to classmates of Light Blue Flight 83-13 there was a third student that was schedule for that IP. But the third student that was being set-back to Light Blue Flight did not have any orders to report to the flight line that morning. He had orders to report to the 62nd Company. The date of the accident with names of the IP and Students are on a head stone by Ft Rucker's Daleville Main Gate. It is approximately in the center of the other headstones.
