There will be an upcoming dedication ceremony for the recently-restored Fort Wolters Main Gate. The event is set for Saturday, March 12, at 10:00 a.m.
A committee of local citizens has been working since early last Summer on this project, which has been divided into three phases. The first phase includes the restoration of the arch to its 1968-era appearance, the restoration of the walls and helicopter supports and the addition of signage identifying the area as Wolters Industrial Park. The second phase is the addition of a nearby parking area with signage describing the gate and its history, as well as listing the major donors to the project. The third phase, to be built later this year, will be a parking area and signage located on the triangle of land a few hundred feet north of the gate where the road splits. This signage will include the history of the post and information about the industrial park.
The public is invited to attend the ceremony, especially those who were trained as helicopter pilots there in the 60’s and early 70’s, or who worked there in support roles.
Be sure to attend the reception afterward at the nearby Holiday Inn Express.
And, please pass this along to co-workers, friends and family members who might be interested.
