2 pilots injured when military helicopter makes 'hard landing
Two pilots were injured Wednesday when a military Apache helicopter "made a hard landing" south of Pikes Peak in Colorado, the military said in a news release.
The pilots were removed from the wreckage and taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the military said.
"An AH-64D Apache Longbow ... made a hard landing south of Pike's Peak at approximately 1:30 a.m. MST (3:30 a.m. ET)," said the release, issued from Fort Carson, Colorado. It identified the helicopter as one from the 10th Combat Aviation Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, stationed at Fort Drum, New York.
The aircraft was conducting high-altitude mountain environment training in preparation for deployment to Afghanistan, the military said. The cause of the incident was under investigation.
