Does anyone know where I can get that infamous Apache FLIR video that was shown to everyone it seems in the 1990's regarding the Apache that took off from the range (Ft Riley??) in a snow storm and did everything but crash?

The last time I say it was with the Aircrew Coordination Training program. I don't remember if it was on VHS or on a disc. Elkhorn PS. Is this the big daddy with the initials TJ??

Last time I saw it was during a safety center visit while in Germany, almost 10 years ago.
I had heard on of the pilots was Fred Piper but was never sure if it was truth or rumor.

Thanks, I did not know Fred Piper. Also, initials not TJ either... I've been out of Army for 10 years, so video may be long gone. I know they showed it during IPC in 95 and RWIFEC in 96. Probably took place in early 90's. I know the pilots should have kissed the ground when landed. Closest I have seen to a crash without actually crashing...

Thanks for the replies! I did not know Fred Piper (Pieper) and he probably does not send that video out if he does have it. It is a bit of a notorious video, but a great teaching tool on CRM and basic instrument flying.

They were still showing it during IERW at Rucker back in 2003-4.

That would be great! I am not looking to embarrass the pilots, (whom I think still remain mostly anonymous), but rather use it as a teaching tool for new pilots. I am still AD in the USAF and clearly remember what an impact that video had on me as a young Warrant Officer.

For a book I'm doing which is a collection of stories from Aeroscouts, I'd like to hear from those who worked with Vietnam era and modern day Kiowas.

I believe Mr. Pieper got vertigo during the flight, that was the reason for the near crash.

Oh, there is no doubt that vertigo was involved if you watched the tape. Has anyone had any luck getting a copy, preferably electronic?
