I noticed a number of sites that stated my friend's bird was brought down by a Mig-21, as this site also indicates, and that didn't jibe with what I'd heard back in `77.
After a bit of work I finally got hold of the CINCPAC Command report to confirm what I'd heard.
On this site, though, there are a few other problems. The CH-47 tail # was 67-18498, not 69-17124. The bird was out of Humphreys, 17th Avn Bn, and I'm really not sure if it was the 271st or 213th. But it was definitely not from the 2nd Avn Bn at Casey. No Hooks there -- ever.
And most importantly, it was brought down by ground fire after it tried to take off after mistaking the first ground fire for engine trouble and putting down to check it out. No Mig-21.
If anybody wishes for a copy of my file you can send me a PM here on the board.
As a matter of fact I'll go back and enable my email address and you can send me an email.
To honor our fallen comrades it is so very important to keep the historical record straight whenever it's possible. Bob, I did that here.

It was the 19th Avn Bn. at Humphreys. The 19th Avn Co. went to Korea in 1969 to replace the CH 37s with CH 47A's. The CH 47's have always been at Humphreys. I was part of the packet 19 which was built at Ft. Sill in 1968 and we went to Korea in 1969 to replace the CH 37's, I went back in 1980 to the 213th. We were required to read about this incident and the OH= 23 border crossing and shoot down when I reported to the 19th Avn. Bn. in 1980. Roy
