OH-58 crash in Germany in the '80s

I remember a crash in '81 or '82 in Germany. The OH-58A had a pilot and 3 pax, so it was over gross. Pilot I believe was a Major and was assigned to 70th Trans in Mannheim. Aircraft was a 56th AVN bird, and augered in due to LTE. The pilot died later of injuries, all pax survived. I just remember that that was the first crash I was ever around. When we brought it into Hangar 49 at Coleman, the wreckage fit into the back of a duece and a half with no parts sticking out. I am researching for a book and was looking for the particulars, but I was unable to find anything here. Was wondering if anyone knows anything about it.
Thanks,
Smo

You don't suppose it was the 25OCT83 OH-58 accident near Finthen AAF do you? CPT Correia died 9 days later of injuries received.

No. I am sure that was not it. I remember I was new, and I went to Ft. Bragg in Oct 82, so I was not there for that one.

OK, I found a crash 17FEB82 of an OH-58A near Dudenhofen that seriously injured a pilot with 70 TRANS BN and 2 pax. I cannot find the name of the pilot who you stated died later of injuries.

That would probably be it. I remember it was around the first part of the year. The pilot was flying VIP's to look at a field site, I believe. Pilot was new to the OH-58 and was in an orbit around the site. He let the speed bleed off and when he tried to continue on the flight, the aircraft experienced LTE and began to spin. With little or no forward airspeed he settled into the trees, nosed down, and impacted the ground. I was interviewed by the investigation board because I launched the bird that morning. Guess I must have tried to drive it out of my memory. I appreciate the help.
